Energy Drink– Naturally Sustained Energy Through Better Ingredients
Whether energy drinks really lives up to their name is debatable. Many provide a quick energy boost, but since that energy is the body’s fleeting reaction to an excess of sugar and caffeine, the effects are often short-lived, abrupt, and can take you lower than your starting point. A lot of energy drinks boast all natural energy boosters, but this usually just means heavy doses of guarana, taurine and yerba mate. These ingredients do come from natural sources, but the energy boost is not genuine. Plenty of natural energy sources have the same stimulant effect of a hard dose of caffeine, along with the inevitable crash.
This is the major flaw in using energy drinks to supplement traditional stimulant beverages like coffee or tea. Ultimately you will still experience the same crash you are likely trying to avoid. This is simply the impact of natural stimulants, but is it not the case with metabolic stimulants.
Natural metabolic stimulants like quercetin give the body a natural energy boost by naturally fueling the body at a cellular level. Quercetin is the active ingredient in FRS and other natural, sugar free energy drinks. The difference between stimulant energy drinks and metabolic stimulant energy drinks is that metabolic stimulant energy drinks will provide more balanced and sustained energy, rather than a short-lived burst.
Metabolic energy drinks are not associated with jittery feeling, but rather naturally sustained alertness and endurance. Metabolic energy drinks like FRS are great for athletes or anyone seeking a natural, longer lasting energy boost.
Energy Drink – Why Athletes Use Them
Many athletes will consume a sport energy drink when they are going to take part in a competition or when they are doing training exercises. In most cases, they will consume them a number of times before, during, and after any kind of intense physical activity. They do this using sports energy drinks because a sport energy drink will replenish the body’s lost fluids and electrolytes more efficiently and effectively than plain water. Even though water is extremely important for the body, it can cause imbalances of the body’s electrolytes if it is consumed when too much fluid has been lost.
On the other hand, a sport energy drink will provide the body with all the necessary carbohydrates, salts and other nutrients that may have been lost or depleted during heavy exercises or competitions. This will happen regardless of whether the weather is hot, as the fluids will be lost through sweating in order to cool down the body from the physical exertions. During an intensive exercise, the body produces heat, and will transfer it to the skin by what is known as vasodilation of the cutaneous circulation. At the same time, there will also be a cooling effect as the sweat evaporates from the surface of the skin. Further fluids are also lost in exhaled air, as it contains water vapor that comes from the lungs.
Depending on the intensity of the physical activity and the amount of time that it is done for, would determine the amount of sweat that is produced. The amount of water lost through sweat in a day will vary considerably, ranging from 100 to 8000 mL/day. There are number of important elements and minerals that will be lost through sweating, and if these levels are not returned to normal, they can cause a number of complications. If an athlete neglects to replenish his system by consuming a sports energy drink, the loss of fluids can lead to the depletion of circulating blood volume, which can then cause the person to suffer from hypo-hydration, or as it is commonly referred to as dehydration. This will cause a thickening of the blood and put a significant amount of stress on the body’s cardiovascular system. The bodys heart rate will increase significantly in order to maintain sufficient blood flow to the muscles being exercised, as well as other parts of the body.
If at this point, the athlete does not consume a sport enregy drink to normalize their fluid levels and continues with the intensive workouts, the volume of blood will continue to diminish. This reduction in blood volume will cause a reduction of blood flow to other areas of the body, including the skin. With the decrease of blood flow to the skin, there will be a significant reduction in sweating, causing the athletes core body temperature to rise because of the skins impaired ability to dissipate the heat. When this occurs, there is the potential for heat stress, and the athlete may collapse, or in the worst case, death could occur. It is a very serious situation and should be avoided at all costs by making sure that enough sports energy drink is consumed before the start of any intense activities, and then again at intervals during the activity.
Energy Drink- Physiological Consequences
An athlete can also suffer from physiological consequences if they consume too little sport energy drink. This is because low levels of dehydration can cause a reduction in performance of up to 10 to 20%. Studies have shown that individuals who experience a fluid loss in excess of 3 to 5% of their body weight, will suffer from impaired reaction times, loss of concentration, and poor judgment and decision-making. This can be detrimental during sporting competitions, where the athlete must rely on his ability to judge and react in time. Sports energy drinks are essential to keep athletes as focused and alert as possible.
Researchers have found that there are two main influencing factors that are the cause of impaired performance and early fatigue. These two factors are the depletion of carbohydrates from the body and/or the loss of fluids. One of the ingredients that can be found in a sport energy drink is carbohydrates, which can be easily replenished if the athletes consume a sufficient amount of sport drink. This may not always be possible, as some sporting competitions will not allow enough time for athletes to keep replenishing the lost fluids. In order to counteract this, many athletes will consume large quantities of sports energy drink starting many hours before the competition. This would help them to stock up on the required carbohydrates, which are required by the body to produce energy. They will continue to consume these drinks for a number of hours after the competition. A good sports energy drink is extremely important in replacing these lost fluids.
The most effective type of sport energy drink is of the isotonic variety. This is because these types of drinks will be absorbed quickly into the body, replenishing any of the lost fluids and electrolytes, while at the same time boosting the carbohydrate levels. The majority of athletes prefer to use an isotonic sport drink because of its rapid absorption into the bloodstream. Another reason why a sport drink is preferred over water is because water tends to cause bloating and will also suppress thirst very quickly. This causes the athlete to feel full and their thirst quenched, when in fact, not enough fluid has been taken to replace what has been lost. Water also stimulates urination, and as a result, is inefficiently retained. On the other hand, a sport drink will not cause bloating or quench thirst like water, and due to its sweet taste, it will also encourage the athlete to drink more quantities of it.
There are wide varieties of flavors that can be found in sports energy drinks, making them extremely appealing and tasty for consumption. Manufacturers of these products usually provide nutritional facts on the labels, allowing better identification of which types are isotonic, hypertonic or hypotonic. If an athlete requires the fastest type of replenishment then they should go for an isotonic sport energy drink.
